Suraj Gurung presents Hong Kong’s 2018 cocktail trends
On his personal Instagram, Suraj Gurung calls himself a mixology enthusiast and rule breaker, and admits that he most often takes inspiration from cookbooks. We’ll just add that in the realm of coming up with clever cocktail names, he is without equal.
Tender Addict
The tenderness in this cocktail is provided by egg white and elderflower liqueur, and for the passion felt by every hot-hearted lover – gin, Islay whisky, and coffee.
Macabre
Suraj, of course, is being coy when he calls this mix macabre. The brown color perhaps might not be to everyone’s liking, but the combination of tonka bean-infused cognac, absinthe, and bitters will definitely please fans of strong and unforgettable drinks.
Hidden Lady
This little number is formed from contradictions and, at first glance, strange ingredients. Vodka, sake, nutmeg bitters, sorbet, apricot jam – but all of them combine in harmony, rather than clashing.
Big Dick
Almost 100 ml of strong alcohol per serving hints at the fact that this cocktail is made for tough guys.
Forty-Four
For those who don’t have any rest and relaxation on an island in the southern hemisphere coming up, Gurung has a prescription: coconut-flavored rum, nutmeg, marshmallow syrup, and rose petals.
